Algebra 2 Tutoring Schedule
Hello! Welcome to Algebra 2! You will find a list of all of your reading assignments here, as well as some information about our tutoring.
We are using the Algebra 2 text by McDougal Littell. Your book may seem complicated. Don't worry, though, your tutor will be there every step of the way.
The first two chapters of the text are review material, so we will go over these entire chapters in the first two weeks.
After that, the pace will slow down and we can really "dig in" to all the fun ideas in Algebra 2!
Make sure you set aside 1 to 2 hours a day for your math studies. Do not try to rush through this topic!
How the tutoring works.
This tutoring schedule shows you what section of your book we will be studying each day. On your "Online" day, you need to read the section of the book that is listed for that day, unless directed otherwise.
Some people like to read the section before tutoring, some like to read the section after tutoring. In either case, read the entire section and do all of the examples in that section.
This is very important! Always work the examples in the section!
You will log on to Skype twice a week to meet with your tutor and your four student peers. The days and times will be the same every week, except for certain Mondays that are holidays (Memorial Day, etc.). On these days, tutoring will be moved to Friday, and you will not have a quiz for that week.
From Skype, we will all head over to Scribblar to practice our lesson. Before the first session, you will receive an invitation to Scribblar through your email.
You need to save this invitation! Every day we meet online, you will use this link to go to Scribblar – please don't lose this link!
Your tutor will go over the concepts with you and show you how to work the problems. You will be able to practice the concepts with your tutor and your peers.
On the days that we don't meet online, your tutor will assign practice problems from the book. These problems are odd numbered, and you can check your answers in the back of the book.
Always, always work the practice problems!
If you get an answer wrong, rework that problem and try to figure out what went wrong. If you still can't figure it out, then ask your tutor about that problem the next time you meet.
This is important! Always ask your tutor about problems you don't understand!
Every week you will submit an email quiz to your tutor. The quiz problems come from the book, and cover the material you learned during the week.
A note about the quizzes.
Please email the answers to the weekly quiz to your tutor.
First, type the page number, then the problem number. Then type the answer to the problem next to it.
For example, if the quiz consists of page 212, numbers 6, 12, and 22,
then your email would look like this -
Hello (Tutor's Name),
Here is my quiz for this week.
Page 212
6. 248
12. 18 dozen
22. 652 cubic inches
Your wonderful student,
(Your Name)
All of your email quizzes will follow this format.
Some tutoring Rules
1. Absolutely no texting, cell phones, internet browsing, or video viewing, etc., while we are in tutoring! Your attention should be focused on your lesson the entire 45 minutes we are in tutoring.
2. Your parents are welcome and encouraged to attend tutoring with you (they might want to learn Algebra 2 as much as you do)!
3. No cheating! Not ever! Math makes your mind strong and clever, unless you cheat and let someone else do your work for you. Please don't do that to yourself.
Also, if you cheat, we will have to give your spot to another student who is waiting to get into the program (and we would miss you!).
4. You must do every problem listed on your home days. Every time.
5. Math is awesome! Yes, this is a rule.
About your assignments.
The assignments that you complete on the “Home” days are designed to help you really learn the math idea we are working on, and also for you to give to the teacher that oversees your homeschooling.
Unlike the email quizzes, you will write out the problem on your paper, show all your of work step-by-step, then write your answer.
It is very important that you write every step in the problem! We will practice this during our “Online” days, but make sure to do this on your own, as well.
OK. That's it. Here we go!
